Currently Playing: The Flamingos – I Only Have Eyes for You

I think this is a lovely sounding song, and it’s definitely “up there” on my mental list of favorite love songs; probably on the list of favorite songs in general. Beautiful though it is, there is a spooky element to the song. Part of it is the music– there is a ghostly quality to it that is hard to capture in words. Maybe this is something only I take away from this song, but my ear definitely hears some other-worldly overtones going on in there someplace.

Le Tigre - Le Tigre

Possibly eerie music aside, the message of the song is unquestionably heart-meltingly adoring:

My love must be a kind of blind love
I can’t see anyone but you.

Are the stars out tonight?
I don’t know if it’s cloudy or bright
I only have eyes for you, dear.

The moon may be high
But I can’t see a thing in the sky,
I only have eyes for you.

I don’t know if we’re in a garden,
Or on a crowded avenue.

You are here and so am I
Maybe millions of people go by,
But they all disappear from view.
And I only have eyes for you.

When you lose track of all around you, and can only focus on the object of your affection in front of you, you know you have found true love. In my experience, moments like the above while rare and wonderful, do happen. You find yourself staring starry-eyed at a certain someone, oblivious to all else around you, utterly overpowered by emotion.

I have no doubt in my mind that love is the most powerful emotion known to man, and the guiding force behind nearly all actions we undertake as a race.

I am very glad I am not the only one who appreciates the underrated richness of the Cat Fud milieu. “Relationships” is truly one of those classic 80s tunes that brings back memories of my own relationships; indeed, who *doesn’t* think of Cat Fud when timidly approaching our first crush for a date, or passing notes in homeroom, or crushing small animals beneath the soles of one’s boots.

    Whatever – I know I won’t get my gift until next year or later…that’s if I get it at all!! : ) : ) : )

  3. Your love sounds different than mind. Lately love has been sweet thorny tempestuous sedate loving stable thoughtful hard-work. You know, the stuff that happens when you put two equally strong-minded people together for any length of time, so long as they love and respect one another. It’s definitely a rollercoaster, but I’ve got a whole stack of “E” tickets. :) ;) :D

A lovely song! I was going through a guy-hating period, but not anymore. I am ready to find someone to adore/adore me like in this song.
